Cesar Chavez’s English teacher, Bobbie Vang was born in San Diego, CA, and was raised here in Stockton. Mrs. Vang teaches English 2, English 3, and ELD, and she has been teaching for almost 20 years, however, this is her 5th year at Chavez.
Mrs. Vang attended Simpson University in Redding, CA where she majored in English.
Mrs. Vang was into cross country. She liked running a lot while her hobbies were reading books, hanging out with friends, and running.
One of the greatest pieces of advice Mrs. Vang ever received from another teacher that she taught with was, “To inspire people when I’m teaching I shouldn’t show them my superpowers I should show them theirs.” Mrs. Vang liked that quote because it reminds her that teaching is not about her it’s actually about her students and showing them what they are all capable of and their potential. That is why she loves teaching. She loves seeing her students work hard to reach their fullest potential and it gives her life meaning and reminds her why she became a teacher.
Mrs. Vang’s advice she gives to her students is “Always think carefully before making any serious decisions that will have lifelong consequences. Some students tend to have that Yolo mindset but I like to remind them, Yes! We only live once so let your life matter, let us make wise choices that will leave a positive impact on those who will forever know us.”
If Mrs.Vang could write a book she mentioned that “It will probably be realistic fiction and the narrator would be a young student or just somebody in High school going through the motions as a teacher. I always hear stories of how students have their struggles in school and life I would love to write a story where a student learns how to manage all the pressures of being a teenager today, Based on what I heard from some teenagers today’s struggles of not fitting in, the pressures of social media, or just expectations from parents or other adults in their lives anything that would just help the person be seen. I think students need more books that reflect them and who is currently in our society.”
Thank you Mrs. Vang for your caring and tireless efforts to make our worlds better.
