Introduction
“I’m Lanyssa Taidym Vasquez. I tend to go by Taidym at school. A few friends call me Taytay. I do the Rogue Titan TV show here at Chavez. I’m also a CTE skill ambassador and the vice president of the poly club.”
Question 1: What things are you interested in besides Journalism?
“I truly love doing Poly. Being Guamanian which is Pacific Inlander, I love having a way of connecting with a little part of my culture through dancing.”
Question 2: What was some of the best advice you were ever given? And how did that stick with you?
“I tend to throw myself into other things when people need help. My mom always told me to be kind and people will treat me how I treat them. So I try to be nice to everyone even if I don’t know or like them.”
Question 3: What were some of your best moments so far this year?
“Some of the best moments I’ve had this year honestly have been with my friends here at Chavez or with my best friend Kalani. This being my last year at Chavez I think this will be the last time I do things like this. It’s honestly bitter-sweet doing this like performing or going to games.”
Question 4: What was the surprising thing you learned about yourself during high school?
“I would say how much I get done under pressure or how much I can put emotions aside. This school year has been extremely exhausting with my relationships so I’ve learned how to put emotions aside to focus on graduation and getting myself into college with the help of my 2 aunts who have truly been there and believe in me.”
Question 5: What advice would you give to incoming Freshman?
“I would say just focus on your classes, focus on getting yourself through these 4 years no matter what you do or who you are. School is what gets you through life for a career that you will not regret doing. You can have fun doing sports and be in relationships but what matters is getting what you need done.”
Question 6: What is one thing we don’t know about you that would catch us off guard?
“I may seem mean or you may hear things about me but until you get to know me you will understand what kind of person I am instead of learning from people who don’t even talk to me. I’m a very genuine person and I tend to love everyone I come in contact with. I believe that everyone has a good side even if someone is a bad person.”
Question 7: Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now? And are you ready for what’s next after High School?
“I see myself maybe just finishing up school and I’m already in a classroom teaching students journalism. I’ve joked that I would come to replace Gruno here at Chavez but honestly, Gruno has probably been one of the best teachers I’ve ever had and he may not realize it he has helped me learn what I want to do with my own life.”
