Wearing IDS around our necks: This year students will have to start wearing their IDs around their necks so security and administration can identify them and know who does and doesn’t belong at our school. Most students aren’t happy about this because of their school photos, having to wear an uncomfortable lanyard, or just the fact that wearing our ID around our necks is annoying. However, safety is most important in today’s current American climate.
Having only one lunch: Many students and some security that I have interviewed anonymously have said that having the entire school on only one lunch is not easy because it’s very crowded everywhere making it difficult to get anywhere, walk around, and keep an eye on students. Many students have said they would prefer to have lunch after 3rd period rather than after 2nd period. However, having two lunch periods was the preferred option for students at Chavez High. The students felt two lunches would be better because it wasn’t as crowded during lunch and there were more spots to sit down and relax.
Phone policy: One question that got lots of attention was the new phone policy. This school year of 2024-25, at the beginning of every class, students will have to put their phones in a pocket chart that every teacher was issued. Students won’t be able to get their phones till the end of each period and will have to do the same thing for every class. Students have pointed out that they won’t be able to contact their loved ones if something happens at the school because the phones are being taken. Some teachers are getting boxes that students will have to put their phones in and then teachers will lock the box till the end of class. Some teachers do give their students a chance to keep their phones as long as they don’t have it out during class but if it is out and the teacher see’s then it will be taken.
