Senior year is the last year before you start to live your life. It’s the time for prom, graduation, and bittersweet moments with friends before you all head your ways. During senior year, many seniors get what is called “senioritis,” when assignments start piling up, classes start being skipped, and the mindset of “Why does this matter?” starts sticking.
Whether you’re an upcoming senior who wants more information or a senior yourself, don’t worry. You’re not alone, and there are ways to overcome it.
1. Think and plan: It can become easy to get overwhelmed when people are constantly asking about your future life. You can use the time that you have to think about your goals. Do you have a dream college? Or do you want to go to college? Think about what job to get beforehand so that you won’t have to stress later when it’s needed.
2. Find your goal: Could you remember why you started in the first place? Whether getting into college, earning a scholarship, or making you or your family proud. There is always something to keep you motivated; don’t let things get in the way of your path.
3. Create a set schedule: The best way to target procrastination is to stay organized. Use a planner or calendar to keep track of your assignments. Be sure to hold yourself accountable to your schedule. It’s good to make time for fun but know the right balance between free and school time.
4. Surround yourself with good people: It’s easy to slack off when the people around you do it. Instead, spend time with goal-driven people. Their energy can help you want to do the same.
Though senioritis can be tough, it doesn’t have to be forever. By staying organized, creating goals, and remembering your motivation, you can beat it and make your last year of high school later.
