MECHA
MECHA Club started in 2006 and has continued to grow over the last eleven years into a fundraising powerhouse of a student club. This is one of many amazing clubs on Cesar Chavez’s campus that allows for students to experience these things. When you are a member of MECHA you get immersed into a wonderful of cultural awareness and community service.
Many know that MECHA is an acronym, but much more do not know what it stands for. M.E.C.H.A is short for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Hazatlan, meaning Mexican-American Student Movement of Hazatlan. The members of course, president, VP, officers and the two teacher representatives-Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Fox- are the ones who proudly represent our club.
MECHA does a numerous amount of things that make our students proud to represent them. Multiple fundraisers, selling goodies, volunteering in our local community service events and doing things to give back in order to improve out society is only a brief overlook of it. Not only do we do beneficial things for our school, but we play games and have events for our members as well! “This club was started in order to raise awareness about our culture” expressed vice president, Carlos Gomez. He also confessed that he’s proud of representing MECHA because he’s proud f his culture and enjoys being involved in his environment. MECHA President Angel Quevedo is proud to represent because it has been passed down in her amily from generation to generation. Our club is a great way to become involved while learning about a new culture and doing amazing activities so join us! MECHA meets every other Tuesday right after school in either the career center or in Mrs. Fox’s classroom. We’ll see you there!
