Nintendo President Retiring

Nintendo of America has a new president leading it.

After more than 15 notable years at Nintendo of America, and nearly 13 as its President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime announced his retirement on February 21, 2019

Reggie Fils-Aime started as Nintendo’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2003 and later was promoted to President and COO of Nintendo America in May of 2006.  The year he began his journey at Nintendo was also the year of the Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. Under his leadership, Nintendo’s largest territory expanded the audience for Nintendo products.  Games under the Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit label introduced more people into the gaming community as well as making gaming an a physical activity.

That’s not where it ended for the success and leadership of Fils-Aime. Sales skyrocketed for products like the Nintendo DS, Wii, 3DS, and the latest product, the Nintendo Switch.  At the same time, he communicated innovative new product features to a mass audience via his strong and affable personality, making him a favorite of the gaming community.

While Reggie Fils-Aime has accomplished many things everyone is chomping at the bit to find out about his successor, Doug Bowser. While most avid Nintendo fans know that the name Bowser has not always been a friendly name in the Nintendo world, however Doug Bowser has no relation to the castle stealing, kart riding, spiny shelled menace. Mr. Doug Bowser is an Industry Veteran who joined NOA (Nintendo Of America) in May 2015 as the Vice President of Sales before being promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales the following year. During his time at NOA, The NPD Group states that Bowser’s marketing efforts for the Nintendo Switch helped it become the fastest-selling video game system of this generation.  Previously, Bowser was an executive with industry powerhouse Electronic Arts and most recently as the company’s Vice President of Global Business Planning.

We will all miss Reggie, but Doug Bowser will surely live up to the legacy left by Fils-Aime.
