What Influence Does Music Have in Anime?

Music influences can be found everywhere you look in society. One, none more so than the Hirohiko Araki created Anime/Manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. In this anime series the characters, abilities, and more are all named after All Time Great musicians, bands, or songs from all genres of music.

The story is about the strange and bizarre adventures that the Joestar Descendants go through. The start of the story is based on vampires, gods, and a sunlight breathing power called Hamon.

The series evolves into characters having to face vampires, serial killers, mob bosses, priests, the U.S president, and the introduction of “stands,” or visual representation of their characters energy.  Within the series there have been many strange adventures with many strange characters and ability’s. Some of my favorite characters from the series are Yoshikage Kira with their ‘Stands’ Killer Queen, Sheer Heart Attack, and Bites the Dust. The other would be Guido Mista, with their stand Sex Pistols.

The Design of Kira is based on David Bowie and their stands are based on the Queen songs of the names given. Mista’s stand is named after the Sex Pistols, an English punk/rock band. Kira is a Serial killer in a small town called Morioh and the main antagonist of the fourth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Mista, is part of Passione, an Italian Mafia in part 5 of JoJo’s Adventure, and is trying to kill the boss with his group. There are plenty of characters who are still enjoyable, but are not my favorites. These include characters such as Vanilla Ice, with their stand Cream from part 3, Risotto Nero, with their stand Metallica from part 5, and Enrico Pucci, and their one of there stand Whitesnake from part 6.

There are many musical references in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures and many fun and weird adventures which I quite enjoy following. JOJO’s Bizarre only has parts 1 – 5 currently animated, and can be watched on Netflix and Crunchyroll with a new adaptation releasing soon.
