Why God Of War 2018 is one of the best games we played
God of War came out on April 20, 2018, and was a reboot of the original franchise. The last God of War game was God of War Ascension which came out on March 13, 2013, a 5-year gap with no new game in the series. The people at Santa Monica Studios had to think of something new for the next generation of gaming. They went ahead and changed the main character, grounded the gameplay, added seamless camera transitions, and added a new character to help the main character.
The story is about Kratos and his son taking their mom’s ashes to the highest peak of the Realms, they would also learn and teach each other things along the way while Kratos overcomes his past life. God of War is still a hack-and-slash game like the others in the series, but with a third-person perspective, more grounded combat, and more cinematic cutscenes. The writing for the story is amazing. The story is easy to understand while the cutscenes are realistic and highly detailed. You can also feel for Kratos and his son throughout the story.
The new gameplay feels smooth and the combat feels satisfying. The addition of Krato’s son isn’t annoying either, he actually helps you when in combat. You feel like you are Kratos when you fight enemies and use the combos and powers you gain during the journey. The best part is when you activate rage mode, you can feel the rage of Kratos when he slams and punches enemies.
Along the way, you will meet friendly characters and evil enemies throughout the story, and the story hints at Krato’s past from some of these characters. The side quest is good to do since it allows you to upgrade your equipment throughout the story.
The map is a perfect size, has beautiful scenery, and you travel by using a boat, while later on in the story you are able to teleport. Also they got rid of the majority of any loading screens. This is why God Of War 2018 is one of the best games we ever played, we are now waiting for the game’s sequel, God Of War Ragnarok, which will come out later this year on November 9, 2022.
