Recently the Activision and Microsoft deal seemed like it would not go through, but in July of 2023, a California judge allowed Microsoft to close the deal with Activision Blizzard. Microsoft didn’t officially buy Activision yet, but this means that they are basically done with the deal, and we have to wait for the official announcement.
One thing that Microsoft did that was shocking and amazing was deciding to fix the old Call of Duty game servers. Meaning that the old games are now playable again.
These fixes aren’t perfect because there are still some hackers and connection issues, but it’s way easier to find games and play them. People are coming back to Black Ops 1, Black Ops 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3, and recently these games are the top-selling Xbox games, which is crazy to see since some of these games are more than a decade old.
I’ve been playing black ops 2 online and had a very fun and nostalgic experience. The Multiplayer is still fun even in 2023, and there were fewer hackers in my games. I would usually get into games with no hackers which is a weird thing to say for an old Call of Duty game on the Xbox 360.
The Zombies mode is also populated with thousands of people. The Zombies mode also had hacker issues, but now I haven’t come across a hacker in any of the games. There are some lag issues, but the game is still fun to play.
Many people believe that Microsoft did this so that when the Activision deal is finished the COD games will be on Xbox Game Pass. This fix is only on Xbox. The PS3 and PC servers are not fixed.
