Angry Birds is available on many devices before it’s discounted and is considered to be the most downloaded app. However, it was released on the PSP via mini-games. I reviewed it on the PPSSPP emulator, and here is my experience.
Playing this game turned out to be quite enjoyable for the most part. It features the same levels that were included in the 2009 version of Angry Birds, which brings back some fond memories for long-time fans. However, while the nostalgic factor is strong, a few limitations prevent it from fully capturing the magic of the original.
One notable constraint is the lack of a zoom-out feature. As a result, players can’t get a broader view of the battlefield, making it challenging to strategize effectively and thoroughly appreciate the sight of the birds soaring through the air to hit their targets. This aspect can limit the overall gameplay experience, especially for those who enjoyed the visual dynamics of the original game.
Furthermore, the absence of flashy gadgets, such as the Slingshot aim assist, earthquake attacks, or the Mighty Eagle, leaves a void for players who appreciated those additional strategic elements. These power-ups added layers of fun and creativity to the gameplay, and their absence can make the game feel somewhat flat.
It’s worth mentioning that this version hasn’t received any updates or improvements, which might deter some players looking for a more refined experience. Ultimately, this game might resonate best with those searching for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, allowing them to relive the charm of the original Angry Birds without the frills and added features that came with later versions. If you’re someone who cherishes those early days of gaming, this could still be a worthwhile play, even with its limitations.
No touchscreen exists, so you will use the PSP controls to aim and launch the birds. The analog stick is used for aiming, while the trigger buttons allow you to move the screen to view the pigs.
Overall, it is a very good game for the PSP, and you can play it on your computer using the PPSSPP emulator.
