DMV During a Pandemic

Have you found yourself asking the question: How does the behind the wheel at the DMV work during a pandemic? Well as many of you may know, we are in the middle of a pandemic and there are extra steps needed for everyone’s safety even at the DMV.

The behind the wheel test is for appointments only. Usually lines at the DMV are crazy, but if you’ve made an appointment you can cut the line and get helped faster. The driving behind the wheel test does not require any money. If you are underage, you will need your driving school certificate stating that you’ve finished all your hours needed. Bring your permit with you as well as any other necessary things like your eyeglasses or contacts, if needed.

Now, the actual driving test only takes about 10 minutes. But before that, they take extra precautions and wear masks, have both windows open on the passenger and drivers side, and as well as plastic seat covers for the instructor. You will be asked to drive around wherever they tell you to, so they can monitor your driving ability.

For the driving test you will be performing the basic rules of driving such as — turning, changing lanes, mirror checks, speed, and more. At the end of every driving test, they will have you park in the parking lot and here they will tell you if you passed or not. When you pass, you will be given a temporary paper license while waiting for your drivers license card to arrive in the mail. The card should take about 2-3 weeks to come in the mail.
