It’s that time of the year for fashion designers and their muses to gather and prepare for how they’ll pop out this year on the red carpet. This 6th of May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is going to be filled with thousands of people trying to see the red carpet. The event is held exclusively for those invited and a plus one, but the red carpet can be viewed by the public as it’s outdoors for the paparazzi to maneuver around.
The Met Gala is held annually and is an exciting time for the Hollywood scene to gather with desired brands to show off their looks. It’s like a massive social event for the year. It’s not simple to be there as an invite either. Anna Wintour is in charge of handling who’s there and who’s not. She’s an important figure in the fashion industry because she’s the editor-in-chief of Vogue.
Last year’s Met Gala dress code was “in honor of Karl.” You’d expect the classic and timeless style of 90s Chanel that everyone recognizes and loves. Controversies grew as celebrities showed up with outfits that felt like a massive let-down.
With the reveal of the 2024 Met Gala theme and dress code, it felt like a year for redemption. This year’s theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time.” Just like every other event, many designer brands will show up with their ambassadors to showcase their take on the annual theme.
The dress code “The Garden of Time” is expected to be interpreted with many botanicals and bundles of floral-inspired looks. The theme came from J.G. Ballard’s short story, first written back in 1962.
Will the carpet this May be filled with floral and botanical prints and colors or will it be turned into another year filled with designs that are going to be seen as another annual let-down?
