While scrolling through TikTok, I noticed that everyone, including me, is complaining about the Snow White movie. The complaints range from how they could have cast a better actor, why they couldn’t change the costume and hair for Snow White, why they changed the story, and the dwarves being completely CGI. Many have said the colors and the design could’ve been swapped for her costume. Her hair was mentioned many times as not curly enough, too.
People have compared clips of Zegler’s interviews about her opinion on Snow White to other actors like Halle Bailey, saying, “Her ability not to take no for an answer. I wanted to keep all those things and add a little bit of me to it.”
Regarding the character of Ariel, she had no issue with the cartoon princess, while Zegler makes many comments at various times about how the story of Snow White is off-putting.
Most Disney princess live-action movies that are releasing have been changed story-wise, and this movie is one of the products.
Individuals argue that this movie specifically didn’t need a change with the plot of a hero trying to save the princess. Non-Disney live-action Snow White movies, such as “Mirror Mirror” and “Snow White and the Huntsman,” are getting more credit instead of this.
Many people auditioned for the role, but seeing Zegler’s opinion and feelings about Snow White makes it seem like the role given was undeserving. She says Snow White’s love story is with a guy who stalks her and says numerous times how it’s weird. Then a remark, “It’s no longer 1937… she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.” She only watched Snow White once and began to pick it up again for the film after “16 years”. Some even found that her singing didn’t fit the princess.
Reviews have been 1.8 by IMDb, 42% by Rotten Tomatoes, and 3/5 by Common Sense. I have yet to watch it personally, but I don’t plan to.
