Minerals added for taste
On water bottles, you can read “minerals added for taste” in very small lettering. Different brands add minerals to make a distinct flavor of water. So, one hundred Cesar Chavez High School students were surveyed to choose which brand was their favorite. Thirty-one out of 100 students preferred Aquafina, the winner of this poll (with Dasani coming in as a close second of 24 votes).
Other students enjoy drinking artesian water such as Fiji and Voss, which is more expensive than your average water bottle. Twelve percent of students chose Fiji, while a smaller six percent chose Voss.
“I picked Fiji because they’re always on the commercials. It tastes fresher than other brands,” Jamal Fullard ’18 said.
Costco’s Kirkland water came in third. When some students could not decide what brand to choose, they decided on Kirkland because it is the brand they drink the most often. It is not surprising because quite a few Chavez students bring Kirkland water bottles to school.
Six of the 100 students preferred the natural taste of Arrowhead. Arrowhead does not have minerals chemically added for taste, but is instead naturally flavored by a mountain spring. The remaining students preferred Nestlé or Smartwater.
Some people say “water is water; it tastes the same” but the students at CCHS beg to differ. Who knew minerals could make water tasty?
