Little Caesars was both the best and worst first-time job I’ve had. I met amazing people there and had fun, but what were some of the worst parts?
On my first day working, I was sent straight to the register on a late, busy Friday night. The thing was, I was the ONLY person there taking people’s orders and giving people their food with little to no help. I’m unsure how I did it on my first day or any other day, but I could get through it. I started at the beginning of April 2024 but quit mid-July 2024. It wasn’t the best choice, but I had my reasoning. I know it was only for a few months, but I gained experience handling cash, customer service, service skills, and being quick.
Now, I wish I had stayed a little longer. I miss working there, taking people’s orders, even though it was stressful, hanging with my coworkers, and working with my cousin.
The pay was excellent, but the scheduling was horrible. They would send the schedule on Monday, the day before the work week. So, if I needed a ride to work, I would have to ask quickly because I could be scheduled on Tuesday without knowing or without a ride.
The customers, on the other hand, I have mixed feelings about. 40% of the time, they ask for the most ridiculous, confusing thing ever; it’s just pizza. They would yell at me, blame me, and do everything to make me feel miserable. We are all human, and everyone makes mistakes, and that’s not what a lot of people realize. 50% were kind customers who had patience for me and would back me up. That 10% was the worst of all, Door Dash pick-ups. Some of them were pretty cool, but others were so painful. I would take someone’s order, and they would shove their phone in my face while I was helping someone. They must wait their turn or get in line because customers who want to order become upset.
The working environment was somewhat okay. People land, box, and cut pizzas in a hot oven. So it isn’t easy to hear and keep calm. Not just because the stove was hot, but hardly the AC was on, and if it was, it would be on where I stand by the register, but even then, you could not feel it ever. Whenever there weren’t customers, or it was a hectic night, I would help at landing, like putting the bread in bags, putting the flavored sauce on the wings, or even helping with pizza. The only thing I did not learn was how to make a pizza when I was there. I’m not sure if I was ever going to learn.
Overall, Little Caesars was a fun experience, but I don’t think it was for me. I hope to find something I will enjoy in the future.
