Ethics
Ethics are principles that describes someone’s character. Journalism is the profession of writing newspapers or magazines. Ethics determine the style of each journalist’s work.
Brian Williams is a perfect example. He recently admitted that he told a fake story about him in Iraq getting shot at, specifically his chopper he was aboard on. He told the truth and admitted it was all exaggerated. For his punishment, Williams was suspended for six months. ” Because I have no desire to fictionalize my experience and no need to dramatize events as they actually happened, I think I the constant viewing of the video showing us inspecting the impact area and the fog of memory over the years made me conflate the two” said Brian Williams.
Stephan Glass made up the whole entire time during his career in the New Republic. Chuck Lane was suspicious of his work and went to places that were on Glass story to make sure that the story was true. Glass got suspended for two years and then later fire him for telling more lies. He currently resides in south California. ” I would tell a story and there would be fact A, which maybe was true. And there would be fact b, which was sort of partially true and partially fabricated. And there would be fact C, which was more fabricated and almost not true. And then there was fact D, which was a complete whopper, and totally not true”, said Stephan Glass.
Janet Cooke , author of Jimmy’s World, made up the character in Jimmy’s World. She put a college didn’t go to in her resume. She humiliated by the incident and returned the prestigious Pulizter Prize. “Jimmy is 8 years old and a third generation heroin addict, precious little boy with sandy hair, velvety brown eyes and needle marks freckling the baby smooth skin of his thin brown eyes,” said Cooke.
