Chavez Soccer Playoffs
The 2018-2019 soccer season was another successful year for the Cesar Chavez Varsity boys team in making playoffs for the second year in a row. The Varsity team started slow this year losing 2 of there first three 3 games. Something needed to change if they wanted a chance to win league. That change occurred and they went on a 4 game winning streak beating Edison, Stagg, Bear Creek, and McNair. This hot streak set the team up to be league champions if they finish strong and beat Franklin or Stagg to close the season.
The game against Franklin was intense, going back and forth. Chavez took an early lead 1-0 in the first half and kept it until late in the second half when Franklin managed to get a goal and tie the game. The game ended in a tie which was not good for Chavez. With the tie, Franklin was still first in league while Chavez was right behind them in second.
The second to last regular season game of the year was against Stagg and the Chavez boys had to to get the Win in order to have a chance to win league. The game was tough and intense. Chavez boys ended up with the L and with that went their chances to win league. However, the boys still had a chance for playoffs they just had to secure the win in their last game against Edison. The Chavez boys had an amazing game and beat Edison 3-1 to secure their pass to playoffs for the second year in a row. With a record of 6-3-1 Chavez was on their way to the playoffs to play the first seed, the Turlock Bulldogs who were undefeated on the season. The game was at Turlock and they were one of the least scored against teams on the season, allowing only 10 goals scored on them in 25 games played. Turlock continued their defensive dominance with a score of 5-1 against the Titans to advance to the next round of the playoffs. Turlock is currently playing in the regional championships.
