Barcelona vs Lyon
On Wednesday, March 13, Barcelona and Lyon met in the champions league match-up, both fighting for a spot to advance to the quarterfinals. The first leg ended 0-0 with back and forth the entire time. During the second leg Barcelona started off hot. Barcelona focused on staying aggressive on offense as soon the second leg started. Barcelona (Barca) had possession the majority of the time pressuring and attacking hard.
Lionel Messi broke the goose egg tie with a goal on a penalty kick to put Barca up 1-0 (minute 17). After the goal Lyon started to pressure and play more aggressive, but Barca continued with their aggressive style of play and was attacking while defending, trying to stay up by one goal. In the 31st minute Coutinho (Barca Player) managed to set up a good play with his teammate Luis Suarez and Coutinho scored to put Barca up 2-0.
The first half ended 2-0 with Barca on top. For the second half Barca focused on playing defense to secure the win and advance to the quarter finals. The second half started and Lyon went all out with their pressuring and attacking. They were doing it so well they managed to score in minute 58 to make the score 2-1. After the goal Barca woke up and started to get their head back in the game.
It was minutes later when Lionel Messi took the ball from mid-field and left the defenders behind and scored Barca’s 3rd goal, giving Barca a huge advantage. When Barca scored the third goal Lyon slowly stopped trying they were basically done. Barca took advantage of that and scored 2 more goals to make the score 5-1.
The game ended 5-1 with Messi being named the player of the game with 2 goals and 1 assist. Barca now faces Manchester United in the quarter finals of the Champions League 4/10 and 4/16.
