Titan Day
On Friday August 9, 2019 Cesar Chavez celebrated the 10th Annual Titan Day at 6:00 pm. The entry fee was $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students, as always Chavez students had to have their I.D. or class schedule to attend.
Titan Day is an exhibition football game that pits the JV vs. Freshman teams and the Varsity vs. Varsity teams. The day is held as an inner squad scrimmage and celebration for the upcoming season. For the 2019 Titan Day, cheerleaders had a halftime performance, the football teams scrimmaged, and there was an appearance by the Jr. Titans; our very own pop warner team.
Titan Day originated in 2007 and originally was called Black and Gold day. Current Head Varsity Football Coach, Coach Chicago has stated that, “He wishes that the game would be longer than 90 minutes to have more playing time for [players].” However Coach Chicago’s favorite part of Titan Day is, “To see what we have going for our football team for the upcoming season.”
In years past the football team and cheerleaders have squared off in a competitive game of tug-of -war after all exhibition football games had been played. However, this year the games went longer than expected and the tug of war was cancelled.
The outcome of JV Vs. Freshman game was 20-0, with JV scoring three touchdowns back to back to back. As for Varsity, the game was a defensive struggle as is usually the case at this time of the year. The final score was 10-0.
