Super Bowl LIV Review
Super Bowl 54 was a very good and entertaining game to watch. There were lots of big moments from the game as it came down to the very end. The two teams who headlined this year’s Super Bowl was the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Franciso 49ers. The game drew in 102 million viewers and let’s see how the game turned out to be.
In the 1st quarter, the Chiefs would get the ball first, but after a couple of miss throws the Chiefs would be 3 and out. The 49ers would get the ball from a punt and do what they do best. With a couple of quick passes, and run plays the Niners drove down the field, but the Chiefs defense while it bent, it did not break. The 49ers would be held to a field goal and an early lead of 3-0 while taking off almost 6 minutes of clock.
The Chiefs would get the ball back as they would take their turn driving the field. They started with a lot of quick passes to their speedy receivers to pick up some yards and then mixed in some great run plays to get them near the endzone. Patrick Mahomes then did what Mahomes does and scrambled around before makign a play and taking the ball in himself for a touchdown to take the lead 7-3.
The 49ers would get the ball back and quickly turn it over with an interception by Jimmy Garoppolo. The Chiefs lookedx to capitalize on the mistake, but instead settled with kicking a field goal to make the score 10-3. The 49ers however would bounce back quickly and score a touchdown off a 15-yard pass to Kyle Juszczyk for a 10-10 score at the end of the 1st half. With the score tied at half, whispers about Buffalo Wild Wings free wings for everyone in America began to circulate. If the Super Bowl goes into overtime Buffalo Wild Wings promised to give away free snack size wings to everyone in America on February 17.
Coming out of the half the 49ers would start with the ball and would go down the field to kick a 42-yard field goal to take the lead 13-10. Later the Chiefs tried matching the scoring drive , but instead gave the ball away on a Patrick Mahomes interception, his first interception of the postseason. The Niners would take advantage of this and score a 1-yard rushing touchdown with Raheem Mostert.
After this the 49ers began rolling. The Chiefs tried answering again, but again would end a drive with another interception. This turnover however could not be capitalized on by the 49ers and instead they would punt for the first time of the game early in the 4th quarter. The Chiefs would waste no time though getting back into the game with a quick 1-yard touchdown to Travis Kelce at the end of a 2:40 drive. The 49ers would then begin to stall and end up punting again after a quick 3 and out, where the Chiefs would once again waste no time. This time they would finish with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Damien Williams to bring the score 24-20 late for a Chiefs lead. The Niners would have a shot to come back and score a touchdown in 1980’s Joe Montana fashion, but it would not be and the drive would end on downs. Chiefs then ran the ball to take time off the clock, but a breakout run play from Damien Williams would go on to be the final score of the game with a 38-yard rushing touchdown for a final of 31-20 Chiefs.
The Chiefs would make their 3rd comeback victory of this postseason, coming back from 24 – 10, to end up winning this year’s Super Bowl. It would mark their 2nd championship in franchise history where they haven’t won in 50 years. The 49ers would give up 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter after not scoring at all in the 4th. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes would be your Super Bowl MVP, at the age of 24 he became one of the youngest ever to win a Super Bowl. With 286 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown. This would mark a great end to the 100th season of the NFL.
