10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me – Carrie Hang
- My parents thought I was going to be a boy while I was in my mom’s womb. Therefore, they did not get my gender checked. They both bought blue cover sheets for my crib and even decided to name me Matthew. But SURPRISE! A baby girl popped out on January 21, 1998 and they named her Carrie Hang.
- I have five siblings, four brothers and one sister. Unfortunately, they are all half-siblings. However, this does not separate our love for each other. Being the oldest makes me nurture them all more.
- As a child, I strangely found Child’s Play entertaining, yet I hid under the covers every time I watched it. So, on my fifth or sixth birthday, my uncle decided to buy a Chucky doll for me. I remember being terrified and until this day, no matter how many horror movies I’ve seen, Chucky has been the one to haunt me down.
- When I was in the sixth grade, I participated in the Northern California Spelling Bee. Sadly, I only got so far until I tripped up on the word “typhoon.” I remember thinking “this word does not exist, maybe he meant tycoon!” So, I spelled out “tycoon” and what do you know, I was incorrect.
- When I was in the eighth grade, I flew across the United States to explore the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. It was also my very first time on an airplane and I ended up boarding four different airplanes on one trip. I have been on a total of seven airplanes and out of those seven, I have never been on one with a family member.
- I am a total bookworm. My all time favorite book is Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. I remember reading it when I was about 12 or 13 and having to go into the bathroom to cry because the ending was so sad.
- Cross-stitching has been one of the greatest habits of mine. I am Hmong and cross-stitching is as close to the roots of the Hmong heritage one can possibly get. Currently, I am sewing my own Hmong outfit and nothing excites me more than being able to showcase my work and talent.
- My favorite show is Grey’s Anatomy. It’s an amazing show. Thursdays are the best day of week because that’s when a new episode of Grey’s airs. On the Winter Finale, I balled my eyes out because it was so emotional. Did I mention how amazing this show is?
- I was introduced to the world of music from playing the piano in a Jazz class. Ever since then, I have found that my love for music is greater than I ever imagined it to be. Now, I play the baritone in Marching Band. I hope my adventures with music continue throughout my high school years.
- My dream career is to become an Emergency Room Physician. I put a ton of thought and consideration into this career and I chose it because every day, something new comes through those emergency room doors. I believe it doesn’t hurt to experience something spontaneous, exciting, and new every single day while saving lives.
